MAYOR, CITY COMPTROLLER AND FILLMORE DISTRICT COUNCILMEMBER ANNOUNCE FORMATION OF NEW BROADWAY MARKET BOARD OF DIRECTORSBUFFALO (10/6/00) - Mayor Anthony M. Masiello, City Comptroller Anthony Nanula and Fillmore District Councilmember Karen R. Ellington today announced the formation of a new Broadway Market Board of Directors. The action follows the dissolution of the previous Board of Directors, which included elected officials. The new board's bylaws prohibit elected officials or the staff from serving on the board.
Appointments to the 13-member new board, however, will come from city elected officials (Mayor - two appointments, City Comptroller - one appointment, and Fillmore District Councilmember - two appointments), county elected officials (County Executive - one appointment and County Legislator - one appointment) and representatives of the Broadway Market Tenant Association (two appointments), the President of the Broadway Market Tenant Association (automatic seat) and the Broadway Area Business Association (one appointment).
The new Board of Directors will then appoint two Community-at-Large members and elect officers of the board.
"Over the past several months much attention has been focused on the management of the Broadway Market and the financial difficulties facing the market and some of its tenants," stated Mayor Masiello. "Our goal, first and foremost, was to reestablish confidence in the management of one of our city's most historic treasures. It is imperative that the new Board of Directors restores faith not only among the tenants of the Market, but the general public. I am certain the reconstituted Board of Directors will achieve that necessary goal."
Comptroller Nanula said the new board "faces many challenges, but I'm confident that with these new appointments, we will have the kind of business and marketing experience that will be needed to bring the market back and make it a year-round attraction for visitors from near and far. I'm delighted Frank Toscano has agreed to serve on the board as my representative, and in so doing bring his rich experience in the food industry to the Broadway Market community."
"The new Board of Directors will provide a much needed breath of fresh air for the Broadway Market," said Councilmember Ellington. "This change, along with a revitalized Broadway Market, will go a long way toward the overall improvement of the surrounding commercial district."
The new board members are as follows:
Peter Cammarata (appointed by Mayor)
William Hibbard (appointed by Mayor)
David Dale, Esq. (appointed by Councilmember Ellington)
Paula Alcala-Rosner (appointed by Councilmember Ellington)
Frank C. Toscano (appointed by Comptroller Nanula)
