BUFFALO (6/7/99) - Mayor Anthony M. Masiello today dedicated two Delaware Park baseball diamonds after two of Buffalo's greatest amateur baseball supporters: Connie McGillicuddy and Vince McNamara.

"Amateur baseball in the City of Buffalo would not be where it is without the years of dedication from both Connie McGillicuddy and Vince McNamara," stated Mayor Masiello. "Buffalo enjoys a rich and storied sports heritage thanks in large part to individuals such as Connie McGillicuddy and Vince McNamara; their tireless efforts on behalf of the children of Buffalo can be measured by the thousands of boys and girls who have participated in our city's amateur sports leagues and gone on to great success on and off the playing field."

Mr. McGillicuddy and Mr. McNamara are synonymous with Buffalo amateur athletics. Mr. McGillicuddy coached baseball at Canisius High School from 1948 through 1990; in addition, he managed and coached local amateur teams in the Buffalo MUNY and American Legion leagues from 1938 through 1990. A former Erie County Baseball Chairman, Mr. McGillicuddy was Commissioner of the Buffalo Evening News/Police Athletic League from 1958 through 1988. He received the United States Baseball Federation National Service Award in 1988 and was inducted into the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame in 1994.

Vince McNamara is a life member of the WNY Baseball Umpires Association, former National Chairman of the Baseball Rules committee, was Chairman of the Buffalo Baseball Hall of Fame (where he was inducted as a member in 1993) and was past president of the New York-Penn Professional Baseball League for 42 years.

161t was my honor to know both Connie McGillicuddy and Vince McNamara," stated Mayor Masiello. "Not only were they great advocates for amateur athletics in Buffalo, but, more importantly, they were enthusiastic supporters of developing our youth into well-rounded individuals who could compete not only on playing fields, but in life."
