BUFFALO (1/12/99) - Mayor Anthony M. Masiello today announced the opening of the City of Buffalo's Emergency Operations Center, which will conduct operations from the Buffalo Fire Department's headquarters at 195 Court Street in downtown Buffalo.

"The Emergency Operations Center is a critical component of our overall effort to coordinate our snow removal and management plan," stated Mayor Masiello. "Our citizens can contact the Center 24 hours a day to request assistance related to snow removal and medical assistance. It will remain open indefinitely."

The Emergency Operations Center is coordinated by the City of Buffalo's Emergency Services Coordinator, Deputy Fire Chief John W. Sniderhan. The Center serves as a clearinghouse for snow-related activities for all city agencies during the course of the continuing inclement weather.

Citizens requiring assistance can contact the center at the following phone numbers: 851-4187, 851-4189 and 851-4194. Deputy Chief Sniderhan has requested that citizens report fire hydrants and fire alarms buried by snow. In addition, any citizens who own four-wheel drive vehicles that wish to volunteer their services in transporting medical supplies or assisting shut-ins, should contact the Center.

PLEASE NOTE: ALL NON-SNOW RELATED EMERGENCIES SHOULD BE REPORTED TO 911; DO NOT CONTACT THE EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER FOR NON-SNOW EMERGENCIES.
