BUFFALO (12/10/99) - Mayor Anthony M. Masiello today announced that five city public schools have been added to the city's Community School program, bringing the total number of participating schools to thirteen. The Mayor announced the program expansion during a student assembly at Riverside Institute of Technology, which is one of the five new Community Schools.
"Since their inception, Community Schools have proven effective in improving students scholastic achievement, as well as aiding them on other matters that involve their daily lives," stated Mayor Masiello. "Through enhanced access to health and social services, adult education and positive extracurricular activities for students, Community Schools can provide vital services that might otherwise be unavailable, at least in one central location, for the immediate community."
The new Community Schools are: School #18, Triangle Academy #28, Academy School #43, Early Childhood Center #54 and Riverside Institute of Technology. The existing Community Schools are: Bilingual Early Childhood Center #36, Lincoln Academy #44, Community School #53, Broadway Village Elementary Community School #57, Herman Badillo Bilingual Academy #76, Early Childhood Center Community School #77, West Hertel Academy #94 and Grover Cleveland High School.
