BUFFALO (8/12/99) - Mayor Anthony M. Masiello, members of the Common Council and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development representatives today dedicated the recently renovated John F. Kennedy Park in the city's Homeownership Zone. The $1 million renovation project is the key public space improvement for the city/HUD joint development initiative.
Located at Clinton and Hickory Streets, the JFK Park includes: improved landscaped areas for family activities, three new basketball courts, a new baseball field, new playground equipment, an outdoor performance theater and a new concession building.
"The new JFK Park is an exciting and critically important development for the growing Homeownership Zone," stated Mayor Masiello. "The building of new homes is the driving force for this joint effort, but it is essential that we provide decent recreational open space to complement our home building activities. The John F. Kennedy Park is a shining example of how to create useful and attractive open space within the city."
The Homeownership Zone will include the construction of 344 new homes as well as myriad neighborhood infrastructure improvements. Buffalo's Homeownership Zone was chosen to receive federal assistance from a field of over 100 cities and counties in a nationwide competition.
